Down to your county: the federal rules and Texas numbers above are the same across the state. County-level detail — your county's plan list and local help — is coming soon; those figures aren't in our data yet, so we don't show them. How Medicare works in Texas
The four parts are federal — identical in Texas and every other state. What changes here is which plans your county sells, the Medicaid limits that lower your costs, and how the free counseling program runs.

Medigap in Texas — the six-month window that matters
Texas uses the federal standardized system: Plan G is Plan G, insurer to insurer — only price and service differ. Your protection is timing: for six months after you are both 65 and on Part B, no insurer can turn you down or charge more for your health history. We never name or price policies; HICAP can show you current Texas rates for free.
Kidney Health Care Program; Texas HIV SPAP — extra prescription help
Texas's own drug-cost program works alongside Medicare Part D. Disease-specific only — kidney and HIV. No broad senior drug assistance program. Eligibility and benefits change — confirm current details with the program or your HICAP counselor.
PACE — nursing-home-level care, at home
The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly keeps people who need that level of care in their own communities. Texas has about 3 PACE programs. You must be 55+, live in a service area, and be certified as needing that level of care. Details at Medicare.gov (opens in new tab).

Texas Medicare: common questions
When can I enroll in Medicare in Texas?
Timing is federal, so it is the same as everywhere: a 7-month Initial Enrollment Period around your 65th birthday, then the Annual Enrollment Period each October 15 – December 7. Missing Part B without qualifying coverage creates a permanent penalty.
Does Texas have its own Medicare rules?
No. Eligibility, enrollment windows, and penalties are identical nationwide. What varies is which plans your county sells, the Medicaid income limits for Medicare Savings Programs, Medigap consumer protections, and how HICAP operates.
Can Texas help me pay my Medicare premiums?
Yes, if your income is limited. Medicare Savings Programs — QMB, SLMB, QI — can pay your Part B premium and, with QMB, your deductibles and cost-sharing. Qualifying also gives you Extra Help with drug costs automatically. Apply through Texas Medicaid or ask a HICAP counselor.
How many Medicare plans are available in Texas?
Texas has roughly 426 Medicare Advantage plans statewide, though the number in your specific county may be higher or lower. We do not name, compare, or recommend specific plans — see every plan in your ZIP on the official Medicare Plan Finder at Medicare.gov.
